These probiotics are generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children. However, caution is advised if you're seriously ill or have a weakened immune system—rare cases of bacterial bloodstream infection (bacteremia) and sepsis have been reported in critically ill and preterm infants using probiotics.

Gastrointestinal side effects, when they occur, are uncommon and include abdominal discomfort, bloating, flatulence, constipation, and rarely diarrhea or vomiting. One person in a trial reported a dry cough.
