UltraBiotics is a 7-ingredient probiotic blend. The active ingredients are live bacterial strains — Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus rhamnosus, Lactobacillus plantarum, Bifidobacterium animalis lactis, Bifidobacterium bifidum — plus a live yeast called Saccharomyces boulardii.
These are meant to support your gut flora. The inactive ingredients are vegetable capsules, microcrystalline cellulose, silicon dioxide, and magnesium stearate.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence we have is for the individual strains, not the blend together. Lactobacillus acidophilus is possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome, Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis; evidence is insufficient for acute respiratory distress syndrome.
Bifidobacterium bifidum is possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome and respiratory tract infections, but evidence is insufficient for hay fever, Alzheimer disease, and generalized anxiety. Saccharomyces boulardii is possibly effective for rotaviral diarrhea, traveler's diarrhea, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, necrotizing enterocolitis, Clostridioides difficile infection, and Helicobacter pylori infection.
The evidence base we hold doesn't speak to the blend as a whole.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Lactobacillus acidophilus is generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children, though you should check with your doctor before use. Mild gastrointestinal side effects like bloating, flatulence, and abdominal discomfort are uncommon.
In rare cases, the live bacteria have been associated with serious infections like sepsis or endocarditis, mostly in people whose immune system or gut barrier was already compromised. Saccharomyces boulardii is generally safe for healthy adults but should be avoided if you're critically ill or immunocompromised; serious fungal infection (fungemia) has been reported rarely, especially in intensive care patients.
Mild gastrointestinal complaints like abdominal cramps, nausea, and flatulence occur rarely. Bifidobacterium bifidum is generally well tolerated in healthy people; bloating and flatulence may occur.
People with weakened immune systems should be cautious. No pregnancy or lactation safety data is on file for the strains we could check.

Lactobacillus acidophilus La-14
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.
Bifidobacterium bifidum BB-6
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Bifidobacterium. bifidum with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of B. bifidum.
Since B. bifidum preparations usually contain live and active organisms, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and B. bifidum preparations by at least 2 hours.
Saccharomyces boulardii
Antifungals
Theoretically, taking antifungals with Saccharomyces boulardii might decrease the effectiveness of Saccharomyces boulardii.
S. boulardii is a live yeast. Therefore, simultaneously taking antifungals might kill a significant number of the organisms.
