Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: vanadyl sulfate 10 mg, a form of vanadium — a trace mineral. The tablet also contains inactive ingredients (calcium phosphate, vegetable cellulose, vegetable stearic acid, silica, and vegetable magnesium stearate) that serve as fillers and binders.

Strong evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Strong

Clinical evidence supports at least one of this product's ingredients for its stated purpose.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: trace mineral supplementation and nutrient support.
  • We looked for evidence on: Vanadium deficiency.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Vanadium is rated "Likely Effective" for Vanadium deficiency (Natural Medicines).

Vanadium is likely effective for treating vanadium deficiency. For athletic performance, cancer, diabetes, and high cholesterol (hyperlipidemia), the evidence we hold is insufficient to rate whether it works.

The small clinical studies done on vanadyl sulfate in type 2 diabetes are promising but too limited to draw firm conclusions.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Vanadium is generally well tolerated in small dietary amounts, but this 10 mg supplement dose is well above the recommended daily limit of 1.8 mg — so side effects are possible. The most common ones are stomach upset: abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, gas, and nausea when doses exceed the limit.

Rarely, long-term high doses may damage your kidneys. Allergic reactions to vanadium have been reported, including itchy rashes and contact dermatitis.

Do not use this product during pregnancy — there isn't enough safety information. Avoid it while breastfeeding as well.

Moderate identified

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Vanadium.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: anticoagulant / antiplatelet drugs; diabetes medications.
  • For scale: 208 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before you start, check your exact medications against blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs (like warfarin and aspirin) for a Moderate bleeding risk, and diabetes medications for a Moderate risk of low blood sugar. Both interactions are theoretical but documented in the data.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

Vanadyl sulfate may help with vanadium deficiency, but it's not established for diabetes, athletic performance, or high cholesterol. If you take blood thinners, antiplatelet drugs, or diabetes medications, check with your pharmacist first — this dose is high enough to cause interactions and side effects.

Pregnant and breastfeeding people should avoid it.

Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs

Theoretically, vanadium might increase the risk of bleeding when taken with anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs.
In vitro research shows that the sodium orthovanadate form of vanadium prolongs clotting time, likely through inhibition of thrombin and factor Xa.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Antidiabetes Drugs

Theoretically, vanadium might increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetes drugs.
A few very small clinical studies in patients with type 2 diabetes show that the vanadyl sulfate form of vanadium increases insulin sensitivity and might lower blood glucose levels.

Vanadyl Sulfate 10 mg by Wonder Laboratories: Common Questions

Does Vanadyl Sulfate 10 mg by Wonder Laboratories interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Vanadyl Sulfate 10 mg has a known interaction with 208 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Vanadyl Sulfate 10 mg contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Is 10 mg a safe daily dose?
This dose is well above the recommended daily limit of 1.8 mg, so it's higher than what's considered safe long-term. Doses above that limit may cause stomach upset or, rarely, kidney damage with long-term use. Talk to your pharmacist about whether this amount is right for you.
Will this help my blood sugar?
The evidence we hold is insufficient to say vanadium works for diabetes. A few small studies in type 2 diabetes showed promise, but they weren't large or conclusive enough to prove it's effective.
Can I take this while pregnant?
No — there isn't enough safety information, so vanadium supplements should be avoided during pregnancy.
What side effects should I watch for?
The most common ones at this dose are gastrointestinal: belly discomfort, diarrhea, gas, and nausea. Rarely, long-term use at high doses may cause kidney damage. Allergic reactions like itchy rashes have also been reported.
Is vanadium a mineral my body needs?
Vanadium is a trace mineral, and this supplement is likely effective for treating a vanadium deficiency — though that's quite rare. For other uses like athletic performance or cholesterol, we don't have enough evidence to say it works.
