Why this applies to Perphenazine

Perphenazine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Acacia Rigidula interacts with.

Theoretically, Acacia rigidula products that are adulterated with beta-methylphenylethylamine (BMPEA) might increase the levels of CYP2D6 substrates.
In vitro research shows that BMPEA, an adulterant found in many Acacia rigidula products, strongly inhibits CYP2D6 enzyme.

Here's the concern with pairing perphenazine (Trilafon) with an Acacia rigidula supplement. Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP2D6 to break perphenazine down and clear it out. Some of these supplements have been found to contain a hidden stimulant called BMPEA, and lab studies suggest BMPEA can block that very enzyme. If it does, perphenazine could build up in your system and hit harder than intended.

In practice that might mean more drowsiness, dizziness, low blood pressure when standing, or muscle stiffness and restlessness. I'll be honest though, this is based only on test-tube data, so it's theoretical right now. Still, given the safety questions around these products, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before mixing the two.

Perphenazine tablets are approved to treat schizophrenia in adults. They are also used to control severe nausea and vomiting in adults when other measures are not enough.

Perphenazine has not been shown effective for managing behavioral problems in patients with intellectual disabilities, and it is not approved for dementia-related psychosis in elderly patients.
