Benzthiazide (Exna) is a thiazide-type water pill that lowers blood pressure by helping your body get rid of extra salt and fluid. The thinking here is that basil may nudge blood pressure down a little too, so taking concentrated basil supplements alongside your benzthiazide could add to that effect.

If your pressure drops too low, you might feel dizzy, lightheaded, or unusually tired, especially when standing up quickly. The good news is that this caution comes only from animal and lab research, not human studies, so it is mostly theoretical. Cooking with basil in normal food amounts is very unlikely to cause any problem. Concentrated supplements or basil essential oil are the real question marks. Before adding those, check with your pharmacist or doctor.
