Here's the honest picture for Koselugo (selumetinib). The interaction we have on file is really about basil's possible effect on bleeding. In test tube and animal studies, concentrated basil oils and extracts seemed to make platelets a little less sticky, which could in theory add to a mild bleeding risk. Importantly, this is theoretical only, and the small amounts of basil you use to season food are very unlikely to cause a problem.

One thing worth knowing: selumetinib itself can sometimes cause bleeding-related side effects, like nosebleeds or easy bruising. So if you're using concentrated basil supplements or essential oils (not just cooking), it's smart to mention it to your pharmacist or your child's care team first.

What Is Selumetinib Used For?

Brand name: Koselugo

Koselugo (selumetinib) is approved for adults and children 1 year of age and older who have neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) — a genetic condition that causes tumors to grow on nerve tissue — when they also have symptomatic, inoperable plexiform neurofibromas (large, deep nerve tumors that cannot be surgically removed and are causing problems).

Both the Koselugo capsule and Koselugo oral granule formulations are approved for this use. The oral granule form is intended for patients who have difficulty swallowing whole capsules.
