Here's the simple version: bergamot may have a mild blood-sugar-lowering effect of its own. Since empagliflozin (Jardiance) already works to bring your blood sugar down, stacking the two could, in theory, push your numbers lower than expected. This isn't about bergamot changing how your body breaks down the drug. It's just two things nudging blood sugar in the same direction.

I want to be honest about the evidence here, it's theoretical and mostly based on animal studies, so it may not amount to much in real life. Still, keep an eye out for signs of low blood sugar like shakiness, sweating, dizziness, or feeling foggy, especially if you also take insulin or a sulfonylurea. Eating bergamot fruit is unlikely to be an issue, but before starting a concentrated bergamot supplement, check in with your pharmacist or doctor.

Bergamot is a Mediterranean citrus fruit, and its standardized extract is most often used to support cholesterol and heart health, with some early but promising research. The essential oil is widely used for fragrance and aromatherapy but should not be taken by mouth, and it can make skin more sensitive to sunlight. About Empagliflozin

What Is Empagliflozin Used For?

Brand name: Jardiance

Jardiance (empagliflozin) tablets are approved for several important uses in adults. It reduces the risk of cardiovascular death and hospitalization in adults with heart failure. It also slows the progression of chronic kidney disease by reducing the risk of serious kidney decline, end-stage kidney disease, cardiovascular death, and hospitalization. In adults with type 2 diabetes and established cardiovascular disease, Jardiance reduces the risk of cardiovascular death.

Jardiance is also used — alongside diet and exercise — to improve blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes in adults and children aged 10 and older. It is not recommended for blood sugar control in type 1 diabetes (it may raise the risk of a dangerous condition called diabetic ketoacidosis) or in type 2 diabetes patients with severely reduced kidney function.
