Diazepam falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Beta-methylphenethylamine (bmpea) interacts with.

Theoretically, BMPEA might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that BMPEA inhibits CYP3A4 by up to 37%.

Here's the gist for Valium (diazepam). Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help break this medication down. In lab dish studies, BMPEA appears to slow that enzyme by a little over a third. If that happens in real life, diazepam could clear more slowly and build up in your system.

Practically, more diazepam on board can mean stronger sedative effects, things like extra drowsiness, dizziness, grogginess, weakness, or trouble concentrating. I want to be straight with you though: this is a theoretical concern based only on test-tube data, not on people. On top of that, BMPEA is an unapproved, amphetamine-like stimulant with real heart risks, so it's one I'd steer clear of. Please loop in your pharmacist or doctor before mixing the two.

What Is Diazepam Used For?

  • Diazepam is used to relieve anxiety and to control agitation caused by alcohol withdrawal. It is also used along with other medications to control muscle spasms and spasticity caused by certain neurological disorders such as cerebral palsy (condition that causes difficulty with movement and balance), paraplegia (inability to move parts of the body), athetosis (abnormal muscle contractions), and stiff-man syndrome (a rare disorder with muscle rigidity and stiffness). Diazepam is also used along with other medications to control seizures. Diazepam is in a class of medications called benzodiazepines. It works by calming abnormal overactivity in the brain.
