Hydrocortisone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Beta-methylphenethylamine (bmpea) interacts with.

Theoretically, BMPEA might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that BMPEA inhibits CYP3A4 by up to 37%.

Here's the gist: your body uses a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to break down hydrocortisone. In lab (test tube) studies, BMPEA seems to slow that enzyme down a bit. If that happens in real life, hydrocortisone could clear more slowly and build up, which might make its effects and side effects stronger. With steroids that can mean things like fluid retention, higher blood sugar, mood or sleep changes, and over time more concern for blood pressure and bone or immune effects.

I'll be honest, this one is theoretical and based only on lab data, so we don't know if it truly matters in people. On top of that, BMPEA is a risky, unapproved stimulant I'd steer clear of anyway. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

What Is Hydrocortisone Used For?

Brand names: Cortef, Hydrocortone, Carmol HC cream, Hydrocortisone Iodoquinol Cream, Vytone Cream, Massengil Medicated Towelettes, Dioderm, Efcortelan Cream, Mildison, Alphaderm, Calmurid HC, Efcortelan Ointment, Texacort, Alkindi Sprinkle

Hydrocortisone is used to calm skin inflammation and relieve itching caused by conditions that respond to corticosteroid treatment. In adults, it treats a broad range of inflammatory skin conditions. In children as young as 3 months old, it is specifically approved for mild to moderate atopic dermatitis (eczema).

It is also used in rectal foam form to treat inflammation of the lower bowel, such as ulcerative proctitis.
