Abciximab falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Bismuth interacts with.

Theoretically, use of bismuth subgallate or other bismuth salts might reduce the effects of anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs.
In humans, bismuth subgallate activates factor XII and accelerates the coagulation cascade.

Here's the gist for abciximab (ReoPro): this is a powerful IV antiplatelet medicine given in the hospital, usually during heart procedures like stent placement, to keep blood clots from forming. Bismuth, the metal found in some stomach remedies, may nudge your blood in the opposite direction. In people, bismuth salts have been shown to activate part of the clotting cascade (factor XII), so in theory they could blunt how well abciximab thins your blood.

If that happened, the worry would be a weaker anti-clotting effect. That said, this is a theoretical concern based on how these substances work, not something well documented in real patients. And honestly, since abciximab is only given in a closely monitored hospital setting, your care team is already watching your clotting. If you take a bismuth product, just mention it to your doctor or pharmacist.

What is Bismuth?

Bismuth is a metallic element used in medicine mostly as bismuth subsalicylate (the active ingredient in some well-known stomach remedies) to ease upset stomach, heartburn, nausea, and diarrhea. It is generally well tolerated for short-term use, but it can cause harmless black stools or a dark tongue, and because most products contain salicylate, it carries cautions similar to aspirin. Always follow the label and check with a pharmacist before regular use.
