Here's some good news that should put your mind at ease. The interaction in our database flags bismuth (like the kind in pink stomach remedies) with blood thinners, because bismuth may slightly nudge the clotting system toward forming clots. That's a concern for drugs that actively thin your blood.

Bromfenac (Prolensa, Bromsite) is technically an NSAID, which is why it landed in this category, but it's an eye drop used after cataract surgery. Almost none of it reaches your bloodstream, so it doesn't meaningfully thin your blood the way oral blood thinners do. In real life, taking bismuth alongside your bromfenac drops is very unlikely to cause any problem. This concern is theoretical to begin with. Still, if you take true blood thinners or have any worries, a quick chat with your pharmacist is always worth it.

Bismuth is a metallic element used in medicine mostly as bismuth subsalicylate (the active ingredient in some well-known stomach remedies) to ease upset stomach, heartburn, nausea, and diarrhea. It is generally well tolerated for short-term use, but it can cause harmless black stools or a dark tongue, and because most products contain salicylate, it carries cautions similar to aspirin. Always follow the label and check with a pharmacist before regular use.
