Blessed Thistle + Progesterone (prescription drug)
Progesterone (prescription drug) brand names: Prometrium, Endometrin, Utrogestan.
We found no known interaction between Blessed Thistle and Progesterone (prescription drug) in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first. Additionally, although there is no interaction, the two are separately associated with some of the same side effects, which would make a new symptom harder to attribute to one or the other.
Blessed Thistle and Progesterone (prescription drug)
We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.
No Known Interaction Found
We did not find a documented interaction between Progesterone (prescription drug) and Blessed Thistle in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.
If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.
Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Pregnancy & breastfeeding ratings are from Natural Medicines (Therapeutic Research Center) — the full detail is in the Special populations card below. Safety guidance is general; always confirm with your pharmacist or doctor for your situation.
Why No Interaction Is Listed for Progesterone (prescription drug)
Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Progesterone (prescription drug) is filed under 6 classifications — including progestin, cytochrome p450 2c19 (cyp2c19) substrates, topical drugs. Blessed Thistle has documented interactions with 3 drug classes — the most serious being antacids (minor), h2-blockers (minor) and proton pump inhibitors (ppis) (minor) — and none of Progesterone (prescription drug)’s classifications are among them.
Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

“Prescription progesterone (Prometrium, Endometrin) supports pregnancy, regulates cycles, and protects the uterine lining during estrogen therapy, and because a steady hormone level is the whole point of taking it, its 148 documented supplement interactions warrant genuine vigilance. About Blessed Thistle
What is Blessed Thistle?
- Digestive upset and poor appetite
- Boosting bile flow
- General bitter tonic
- Supporting milk supply during breastfeeding (traditional)
- Wound care (traditional, topical)
Blessed thistle is a bitter herb traditionally used to stimulate appetite and ease mild digestive complaints. High-quality human studies are lacking, so its benefits are not well proven. It is likely fine for short-term use in small, food-like amounts, but it should be avoided in pregnancy and used with caution by people allergic to ragweed and related plants.
Cnicus benedictus · Asteraceae · Aerial parts (leaves, stems, and flowers) · Tea, tincture, liquid extract, capsules, dried herb
An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Blessed Thistle is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Blessed Thistle record says about it on its own.
Blessed Thistle: dosing
There is no official, standardized dose of blessed thistle. The right amount can vary depending on the product and the form (tea, tincture, or capsules). The best approach is to follow the directions on the product label and not exceed the recommended amount, since large doses are more likely to cause nausea and vomiting.

About Progesterone Vaginal
What Is Progesterone Vaginal Used For?
Brand names: Prometrium, Endometrin, Utrogestan
Progesterone vaginal products are used as part of fertility treatment. Endometrin, a vaginal insert, is used in an Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) program to support embryo implantation in infertile women under 35. It also helps maintain pregnancy after implantation, up to 10 weeks.
Crinone, a vaginal gel, is also used in ART for women who need progesterone supplementation or replacement. Crinone 4% (and Crinone 8% if needed) is also used for secondary amenorrhea, meaning periods have stopped in a woman who previously had them.
