Auvelity is a combo of dextromethorphan and bupropion. Here's the clever part: the bupropion is actually in there to block an enzyme called CYP2D6 so the dextromethorphan sticks around longer and works in the brain. Boswellia, in lab studies only, also appears to gently block that same CYP2D6 enzyme.

So in theory, adding boswellia could nudge dextromethorphan levels up a bit, which might mean more dizziness, sleepiness, nausea, or a foggy feeling. I'll be honest though: this is theoretical, based on test-tube data, not real patient reports, so it may not amount to much. Still, since Auvelity is sensitive to this enzyme, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Buproprion, Dextromethorphan also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES.

Theoretically, Boswellia serrata might increase or decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that Boswellia serrata gum resin inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes. Other in vitro research shows that Boswellia serrata extract inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes at most concentrations, although it may modestly induce enzyme activity at low concentrations.

Auvelity combines bupropion and dextromethorphan. The bupropion part actually slows down an enzyme called CYP2D6 on purpose, which keeps dextromethorphan around longer so it can work in the brain. Both medicines also get processed in the liver, and CYP3A4 plays a role too. Lab studies hint that Boswellia serrata might block (or sometimes slightly speed up) CYP3A4, so in theory it could nudge these drug levels up or down.

To be honest, this is a theoretical concern only, based on test-tube research, not real patients. If levels did climb, you might notice more dizziness, jitteriness, dry mouth, trouble sleeping, or nausea. I wouldn't lose sleep over it, but please run it by your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.
