Durvalumab falls under IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS — the group Boswellia Serrata interacts with.

Theoretically, Boswellia serrata might alter the effects of immunosuppressive drugs.
Some in vitro research suggests that Boswellia serrata extracts might inhibit mediators of autoimmune disorders such as leukotrienes and reduce production of antibodies and cell-mediated immunity. However, other in vitro research suggests that, when coupled with calcium ions, boswellic acids containing the keto group have immunostimulant properties within specific cell signaling pathways.

Here's the thing about Durvalumab (Imfinzi): it's actually an immunotherapy that's grouped with immunosuppressants in our database, but it works by revving up your immune system to attack cancer cells. So this interaction is a bit of a special case. The concern with Boswellia is theoretical, and the lab data points in two different directions. Some studies suggest boswellic acids calm the immune system, while others suggest they can stimulate it, depending on the cell pathway. We honestly don't know which effect would win out alongside Durvalumab.

Because we can't predict whether Boswellia might blunt how well Durvalumab works or nudge your immune system in an unexpected way, I'd play it safe. Please run it by your oncology team before adding Boswellia, since they're guiding your cancer treatment closely.

Boswellia serrata is a tree resin used in traditional medicine, mainly for joint pain and inflammation. Some studies suggest it may help with osteoarthritis symptoms, but the overall evidence is limited and more research is needed. It is generally well tolerated, but you should check with your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

About Durvalumab Injection

What Is Durvalumab Injection Used For?

Brand name: Imfinzi

Imfinzi is used to treat a wide range of cancers in adults. For lung cancer, it is approved for resectable non-small cell lung cancer (given before and after surgery), unresectable Stage III non-small cell lung cancer (after chemoradiation), metastatic non-small cell lung cancer, limited-stage small cell lung cancer (after chemoradiation), and extensive-stage small cell lung cancer.

Beyond lung cancer, Imfinzi is also approved for locally advanced or metastatic biliary tract cancer (cancers of the bile ducts and gallbladder), unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (liver cancer), mismatch repair deficient (dMMR) advanced or recurrent endometrial cancer, BCG-naive high-risk non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer, muscle-invasive bladder cancer, and resectable gastric or gastroesophageal junction adenocarcinoma (stomach cancer at the junction with the esophagus). Most of these uses involve Imfinzi given alongside other chemotherapy drugs.
