These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Boswellia Serrata interacts with whole categories of medication. Ethinyl Estradiol, Levonorgestrel falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Boswellia Serrata in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES
1 of 2Why this applies to Ethinyl Estradiol, Levonorgestrel
Ethinyl Estradiol, Levonorgestrel falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Boswellia Serrata interacts with.
In vitro research shows that Boswellia serrata gum resin inhibits CYP1A2 enzymes.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the quick picture for your birth control pill (the Ethinyl Estradiol and Levonorgestrel combo). In the test tube, Boswellia appears to slow down an enzyme called CYP1A2, which is one of the pathways your body uses to break down the estrogen in your pill. If that enzyme is slowed, estrogen levels could theoretically rise a little, which might mean more of the usual estrogen-type effects like nausea, breast tenderness, headaches, or bloating.
I want to be honest though: this is purely theoretical, based only on lab studies, not real people. For most folks it likely won't cause a noticeable problem, and this should not weaken your birth control. Still, since this pill is important to get right, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding Boswellia.

CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
2 of 2Ethinyl Estradiol, Levonorgestrel also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES.
In vitro research shows that Boswellia serrata gum resin inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes. Other in vitro research shows that Boswellia serrata extract inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes at most concentrations, although it may modestly induce enzyme activity at low concentrations.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Your birth control pill (the ethinyl estradiol and levonorgestrel combo) is partly cleared by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In test tube studies, boswellia seems to nudge this enzyme, mostly slowing it down, though at low amounts it might slightly speed it up. If it slows the enzyme, your hormone levels could run a bit higher, which sometimes means more nausea, breast tenderness, headaches, or spotting. If it speeds things up, the worry is the opposite: lower hormone levels and a small chance the pill works less reliably.
Here is the honest part: this is theoretical, based only on lab data, not real people. It may not amount to much at all. Still, since reliable birth control matters, it is worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding boswellia.
