Flupenthixol falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Boswellia Serrata interacts with.

Theoretically, Boswellia serrata might increase the levels of CYP2D6 substrates.
In vitro research shows that Boswellia serrata gum resin inhibits CYP2D6 enzymes.

Here's the basic idea. Your body uses a liver enzyme called CYP2D6 to help clear flupenthixol out of your system. Boswellia, in lab studies, seems to slow that same enzyme down. If that played out in real life, flupenthixol could build up a bit and hit harder than expected.

For flupenthixol, that might mean more drowsiness, dizziness, muscle stiffness, restlessness, or those Parkinson-like tremors this medicine can cause. I want to be honest though: this is only a theoretical concern based on test-tube work, not real patients, so it may not amount to much. Still, since flupenthixol's side effects can be uncomfortable, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding Boswellia. Please don't change your dose on your own.

Theoretically, Boswellia serrata might alter the effects of immunosuppressive drugs.
Some in vitro research suggests that Boswellia serrata extracts might inhibit mediators of autoimmune disorders such as leukotrienes and reduce production of antibodies and cell-mediated immunity. However, other in vitro research suggests that, when coupled with calcium ions, boswellic acids containing the keto group have immunostimulant properties within specific cell signaling pathways.

Here is the honest picture: this interaction is filed under immunosuppressants, but Flupenthixol isn't really an immunosuppressant. It's an antipsychotic used for schizophrenia and sometimes depression, and it works on dopamine signaling in the brain, not on the immune system. So the immune-related concern in our database doesn't translate neatly to how Flupenthixol actually works in your body.

On top of that, the evidence here is theoretical, drawn from lab and animal studies, with mixed findings on whether Boswellia even calms or stimulates immune cells. I would not expect Boswellia to meaningfully change your Flupenthixol's antipsychotic effect or its usual side effects (like drowsiness, restlessness, or stiffness). Still, since I can't be certain how these two mix in you, please run it by your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.
