Broccoli and Dobutamine

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Dobutamine and Broccoli in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Dobutamine

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Dobutamine is filed under a single classification — oral drugs. Broccoli has documented interactions with 2 drug classes — the most serious being cytochrome p450 1a2 (cyp1a2) substrates (moderate) and cytochrome p450 2a6 (cyp2a6) substrates (moderate) — and none of Dobutamine’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

What Broccoli Itself Has Been Linked To

This is not an interaction — nothing below involves Dobutamine. It is the side-effect record for Broccoli on its own, from the licensed Natural Medicines monograph. Everything above comes from the Natural Medicines adverse-effect record for Broccoli — expand a row for the licensed statement it rests on. We read the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Dobutamine’s FDA label too, and the two lists don’t meaningfully overlap — which is why no Dobutamine column appears here.

See Every Supplement That Interacts With Dobutamine

This page covers Broccoli only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Dobutamine page lists 17 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.

The most serious there right now: Activated Charcoal (major), Coffee Charcoal (moderate), European Mandrake (moderate), Glucomannan (moderate) and Guar Gum (moderate).

By severity: 1 major · 7 moderate · 9 minor.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Dobutamine page

“Activated charcoal is the one entry here I'd treat as a genuine hazard alongside dobutamine (Dobutrex), a hospital medicine given by IV drip to strengthen a struggling heart. Charcoal binds many drugs and can cut their levels even when the drug isn't taken by mouth, and it's the only major-rated interaction of the 17 on this page.”

  • General nutrition and antioxidant support
  • Heart and digestive health
  • Detoxification support
  • Cancer risk reduction (popular interest)
  • Blood sugar support

Broccoli is a nutritious cruciferous vegetable rich in fiber, vitamins, and plant compounds like sulforaphane that have drawn scientific interest for health benefits. Eating broccoli as food is safe and healthy for most people, but concentrated supplements and extracts are less studied and benefits are not firmly proven. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using broccoli supplements, especially in high doses.

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Broccoli is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Broccoli record says about it on its own.

Broccoli: dosing

There is no official or standardized supplement dose for broccoli. As a food, broccoli can simply be enjoyed as part of a balanced diet. For broccoli sprout and sulforaphane products, the amount of active compound varies a lot between brands, and a proven effective dose has not been established.

About Dobutamine

What Is Dobutamine Used For?

Brand name: Dobutrex

Dobutamine injection is used when the heart suddenly loses its ability to pump blood effectively — a condition called cardiac decompensation. This can happen because of organic heart disease or as a result of heart surgery. It is given intravenously (through an IV) in a hospital or clinical setting to provide short-term inotropic support, meaning it helps the heart muscle contract more strongly.

Clinical trial experience with intravenous dobutamine extends only up to 48 hours of use. Dobutamine has not been shown to be safe or effective for long-term treatment of heart failure, and long-term use of similar drugs has been linked to increased risk of hospitalization and death.

Most-Reported Side Effects for Dobutamine
