Broccoli + Olanzapine
Olanzapine brand name: Zyprexa.
Broccoli has a moderate interaction with Olanzapine. Theoretically, broccoli might reduce the levels and effects of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Olanzapine
Olanzapine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Broccoli interacts with.
Pharmacokinetic research in humans shows that eating 500 grams of fresh broccoli daily for 6-12 days can increase CYP1A2 activity by 10% to 200%. Induction of CYP1A2 activity by broccoli is attributed to its glucosinolate constituents.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist: your body clears olanzapine partly through a liver enzyme called CYP1A2. Eating large amounts of broccoli may speed that enzyme up, which could lower your olanzapine levels a little. In plain terms, the medicine might not work quite as well, so symptoms it controls (mood swings, racing thoughts, or unusual thinking) could creep back if levels drop enough.
That said, this is mostly theoretical and based on studies where people ate about 500 grams (a pound!) of fresh broccoli daily. Normal dinner-sized servings are very unlikely to cause trouble. Concentrated broccoli or sprout supplements are the bigger question mark. Don't change anything on your own, but check with your pharmacist or doctor before starting a broccoli supplement.

About Broccoli
What is Broccoli?
- General nutrition and antioxidant support
- Heart and digestive health
- Detoxification support
- Cancer risk reduction (popular interest)
- Blood sugar support
Broccoli is a nutritious cruciferous vegetable rich in fiber, vitamins, and plant compounds like sulforaphane that have drawn scientific interest for health benefits. Eating broccoli as food is safe and healthy for most people, but concentrated supplements and extracts are less studied and benefits are not firmly proven. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using broccoli supplements, especially in high doses.
About Olanzapine
What Is Olanzapine Used For?
Brand name: Zyprexa
Olanzapine treats schizophrenia and the manic or mixed episodes of bipolar I disorder in both adults and adolescents (ages 13–17). It can also be used alongside valproate or lithium to treat manic or mixed episodes in adults. When combined with fluoxetine, olanzapine tablets and orally disintegrating tablets are used to treat depressive episodes associated with bipolar I disorder and treatment-resistant depression in adults.
Olanzapine intramuscular injection (short-acting) is used by healthcare providers to quickly calm acute agitation in adults with schizophrenia or bipolar I mania. Zyprexa Relprevv — a separate, long-acting intramuscular formulation available only through a restricted program — is indicated specifically for the treatment of schizophrenia in adults.
