Broccoli + Ropinirole
Ropinirole brand names: Requip, Adartrel.
Broccoli has a moderate interaction with Ropinirole. Theoretically, broccoli might reduce the levels and effects of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Ropinirole
Ropinirole falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Broccoli interacts with.
Pharmacokinetic research in humans shows that eating 500 grams of fresh broccoli daily for 6-12 days can increase CYP1A2 activity by 10% to 200%. Induction of CYP1A2 activity by broccoli is attributed to its glucosinolate constituents.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist: your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP1A2 to clear ropinirole out of your system. Eating large amounts of broccoli (research used about 500 grams of fresh broccoli a day for a week or more) seems to speed that enzyme up. When the enzyme works faster, ropinirole can be broken down quicker, so blood levels may drop a bit. Ropinirole is active as-is, not a prodrug, so faster clearance usually means less effect.
In real life that could mean your Parkinson's or restless legs symptoms aren't as well controlled (more shaking, stiffness, or leg discomfort). This is theoretical and based on modest evidence, and a normal serving of broccoli at dinner is unlikely to matter. If you plan to eat large daily amounts or use concentrated extracts, just check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

What These Ratings Mean
Every interaction above is graded three ways — here’s the key to each label.
Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.
- LikelyWell-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.
- AHigh-quality meta-analysis (quantitative systematic review).
- BCase-control study.
- CConsensus.
- DAnecdotal evidence.
These ratings are for information only. Never start, stop, or otherwise change your therapy before speaking with your provider.

By severity: 1 major · 67 moderate · 33 minor.
From our pharmacist’s overview on the Ropinirole page
“Activated charcoal deserves the closest look on this page. It is the only one of the 101 entries rated major against ropinirole (Requip, Adartrel), because charcoal can bind the drug in the gut and shrink the amount that actually reaches you, and for someone relying on ropinirole for Parkinson's disease or restless legs, that can mean…”

About Broccoli
What is Broccoli?
- General nutrition and antioxidant support
- Heart and digestive health
- Detoxification support
- Cancer risk reduction (popular interest)
- Blood sugar support
Broccoli is a nutritious cruciferous vegetable rich in fiber, vitamins, and plant compounds like sulforaphane that have drawn scientific interest for health benefits. Eating broccoli as food is safe and healthy for most people, but concentrated supplements and extracts are less studied and benefits are not firmly proven. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using broccoli supplements, especially in high doses.
About Ropinirole
What Is Ropinirole Used For?
Brand names: Requip, Adartrel
Ropinirole tablets are used to treat two conditions: Parkinson's disease and moderate-to-severe primary Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS) — the uncomfortable urge to move the legs, especially at night or at rest.
Ropinirole extended-release tablets are indicated specifically for Parkinson's disease only. If you take the extended-release form, it is not approved for RLS — that use applies to the regular (immediate-release) tablets.
