Pentazocine brand name: Talwin.
Broccoli has a moderate interaction with Pentazocine. Theoretically, broccoli might reduce the levels and effects of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Pentazocine
Pentazocine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Broccoli interacts with.
Pharmacokinetic research in humans shows that eating 500 grams of fresh broccoli daily for 6-12 days can increase CYP1A2 activity by 10% to 200%. Induction of CYP1A2 activity by broccoli is attributed to its glucosinolate constituents.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist with pentazocine (Talwin) and broccoli. Pentazocine is partly handled by a liver enzyme called CYP1A2. Studies show that eating a lot of broccoli (around 500 grams a day for a week or more) can speed that enzyme up. When the enzyme works faster, your body may clear pentazocine a bit quicker, which could leave you with less pain relief than expected.
A couple of things to keep in mind. This is mostly theoretical and based on lower-quality evidence, so the real-world effect is likely small. Normal mealtime amounts of broccoli are very unlikely to matter. If you regularly take large broccoli supplements or eat huge amounts daily and your pain control changes, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor rather than adjusting anything yourself.

What These Ratings Mean
Every interaction above is graded three ways — here’s the key to each label.
Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.
- LikelyWell-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.
- AHigh-quality meta-analysis (quantitative systematic review).
- BCase-control study.
- CConsensus.
- DAnecdotal evidence.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Pentazocine page
“Pentazocine (Talwin) is an opioid painkiller, so what matters most on this list is anything that deepens its sedation or slows your breathing, and here the risk is real enough to demand respect. Seventy-eight of the 167 supplement and herbal ingredients with an interaction on record are sedating in their own right, and six of the seven…”
