Broccoli + Perampanel
Perampanel brand name: Fycompa.
Broccoli has a moderate interaction with Perampanel. Theoretically, broccoli might reduce the levels and effects of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Perampanel
Perampanel falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Broccoli interacts with.
Pharmacokinetic research in humans shows that eating 500 grams of fresh broccoli daily for 6-12 days can increase CYP1A2 activity by 10% to 200%. Induction of CYP1A2 activity by broccoli is attributed to its glucosinolate constituents.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for Fycompa (perampanel): your liver uses an enzyme called CYP1A2 to help clear this seizure medicine. Research shows that eating large amounts of broccoli (around 500 grams a day for a week or more) can speed that enzyme up. If perampanel gets broken down faster, your blood levels could drop, which in theory might make it less effective at keeping seizures controlled.
That said, this is mostly theoretical and based on modest evidence, and it took big daily servings to nudge the enzyme. A normal helping of broccoli at dinner is very unlikely to cause trouble. Concentrated broccoli or sulforaphane supplements are the bigger question mark. Since perampanel is a seizure medicine where steady levels matter, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding any broccoli supplement.

What These Ratings Mean
Every interaction above is graded three ways — here’s the key to each label.
Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.
- LikelyWell-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.
- AHigh-quality meta-analysis (quantitative systematic review).
- BCase-control study.
- CConsensus.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Perampanel page
“Perampanel (Fycompa) is a seizure medicine that already causes drowsiness and dizziness on its own, which is why I treat this list of 230 interacting supplements with real care. Most entries do one of two things: they add to its sedating effect, as alcohol and kava do, or they change how the liver handles it.”

About Broccoli
What is Broccoli?
- General nutrition and antioxidant support
- Heart and digestive health
- Detoxification support
- Cancer risk reduction (popular interest)
- Blood sugar support
Broccoli is a nutritious cruciferous vegetable rich in fiber, vitamins, and plant compounds like sulforaphane that have drawn scientific interest for health benefits. Eating broccoli as food is safe and healthy for most people, but concentrated supplements and extracts are less studied and benefits are not firmly proven. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using broccoli supplements, especially in high doses.
About Perampanel
