Norgestrel falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Buchu interacts with.

Buchu contains pulegone, a known hepatotoxin. There is some concern that buchu may adversely affect the liver, especially when the leaf is used in large doses or the oil is ingested. Theoretically, concomitant use with hepatotoxic drugs might increase the risk of liver damage. Here's the basic idea with buchu and your progestin-only pill (norgestrel). Buchu leaves contain a compound called pulegone, which in large amounts or as a concentrated oil can be hard on the liver. Norgestrel, like many hormones, is processed through the liver too. So the worry is simply about adding two things that lean on the same organ, which could in theory raise the chance of liver irritation.

I want to be honest though: this is a theoretical concern based on how these compounds behave, not on real-world cases with this pill. Occasional culinary or tea amounts are unlikely to be a problem. Concentrated buchu oil or high-dose supplements are where I'd be more cautious. If you have any liver concerns or use buchu regularly, check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

Norethindrone progestin-only pills — sometimes called the "mini-pill" — are used solely to prevent pregnancy. They do not contain estrogen, which makes them an option for women who cannot or prefer not to use estrogen-containing contraceptives.

When taken perfectly (same time every day, no missed pills), fewer than 1 in 100 women will become pregnant in the first year. With typical use, that number rises to about 9 in 100 — mostly because of late or skipped pills. Consistency is everything with this method.
