Buchu may have antiplatelet effects. Theoretically, buchu may enhance the effects of anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs and increase the risk of bleeding in some patients. Here's the simple version: anagrelide already lowers your platelets and gently slows how well they clump together, which is exactly the job it's meant to do. Buchu has been suggested to have its own mild antiplatelet activity. Stack the two and, in theory, you could nudge your bleeding risk a little higher. That might show up as easier bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or cuts that take longer to stop.

I want to be honest about how shaky this is. The concern rests on anecdotal reports and lab-style reasoning, not solid human studies, so for most people it may never amount to anything. Still, since anagrelide is serious medicine, it's worth a quick word with your pharmacist or doctor before adding a buchu supplement, and let them know if you notice any unusual bleeding.

What Is Anagrelide Used For?

Brand name: Agrylin

Anagrelide — sold as Agrylin and as generic anagrelide capsules — is used to treat thrombocythemia secondary to myeloproliferative neoplasms. That means it's prescribed when a bone marrow disorder causes the body to produce too many platelets, raising the risk of dangerous blood clots.

By bringing platelet counts down to a safer range, anagrelide also helps reduce related symptoms, including bleeding and clotting events (thrombo-hemorrhagic events).
