Dronedarone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Bulbine Natalensis interacts with.

Theoretically, Bulbine natalensis stem might reduce the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that Bulbine natalensis stem extract induces CYP3A4 mRNA expression and enzyme activity. Theoretically, this may increase the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates, but this has not been studied in humans.

Here's the gist for dronedarone (Multaq): your body clears this medicine largely through a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Lab studies suggest Bulbine natalensis may rev that enzyme up, which in theory could make your body break down dronedarone faster than usual. If that happened, blood levels could dip and the drug might not keep your heart rhythm as steady, meaning a higher chance your atrial fibrillation sneaks back. Dronedarone is an active drug (not a prodrug), so faster clearance simply means a weaker effect here.

I want to be honest, though: this concern comes only from test-tube research, not from people, so it's theoretical. Still, with a heart-rhythm drug it's worth a quick chat with your doctor or pharmacist before adding this supplement. Please don't change your dose on your own.

What Is Dronedarone Used For?

Brand name: Multaq

Multaq (dronedarone) tablets are used to reduce the risk of being hospitalized for atrial fibrillation (AF) — an irregular, often rapid heart rhythm. It is approved for adults who are currently in normal sinus rhythm but have a history of paroxysmal (comes and goes) or persistent atrial fibrillation.

Multaq is not appropriate for everyone with AF. It must not be used in people with permanent atrial fibrillation or in those with recently worsened heart failure requiring hospitalization — these patients face a doubled risk of death, stroke, and hospitalization if they take it.
