Pomalidomide falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Cabbage interacts with.

Theoretically, cabbage might decrease levels of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2.
Some animal research suggests that cabbage or its constituent indole-3-carbinol might increase drug metabolism and elimination by stimulating CYP1A2 activity.

Here's the gist for Pomalidomide (Pomalyst): your liver partly clears this drug using an enzyme called CYP1A2. Lab and animal studies hint that cabbage, thanks to plant compounds like indole-3-carbinol, may nudge that enzyme to work a little faster. If that happened in people, your body might clear pomalidomide a bit quicker, which could in theory mean slightly less of the cancer-fighting effect you're counting on.

I want to keep this in perspective. This is theoretical and based on early research, not human studies. Eating normal amounts of cabbage in your meals is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated cabbage or indole-3-carbinol supplements are a different story. Since pomalidomide treats serious cancer, please check with your oncology team or pharmacist before using any cabbage supplements.

About Pomalidomide

What Is Pomalidomide Used For?

Brand name: Pomalyst

Pomalidomide capsules are used in adults with multiple myeloma (a blood cancer affecting plasma cells) who have already tried at least two prior treatments — including lenalidomide and a proteasome inhibitor — and whose disease has continued to progress. It is given in combination with dexamethasone for this use.

Pomalidomide capsules are also used to treat Kaposi sarcoma (KS) — a cancer that can cause lesions on the skin and in internal organs — both in adults with AIDS-related KS after antiretroviral therapy has stopped working, and in adults with KS who are HIV-negative. The KS indication was approved based on response rate; ongoing studies are confirming long-term benefit.
