Co-codamol pairs codeine with paracetamol, and the codeine half is what calms pain by acting in your brain, which can also leave you drowsy. California poppy is thought to have its own mild calming effect on the brain's relaxation pathways. Put the two together and those sleepy effects may simply pile on top of each other.

In plain terms, you might feel more groggy, foggy, dizzy, or lightheaded than codeine alone would cause, and in higher amounts that could affect your breathing or alertness. I'll be honest though: this caution comes only from lab and animal work, not solid human studies, so it's more of a theoretical heads-up. Still, before combining them, please run it past your pharmacist or doctor.
