NONSTEROIDAL ANTI-INFLAMMATORY DRUGS (NSAIDs)
Why this applies to Ibuprofen, Acetaminophen
Ibuprofen, Acetaminophen falls under NONSTEROIDAL ANTI-INFLAMMATORY DRUGS (NSAIDs) — the group Caprylic Acid interacts with.
In vitro research suggests that caprylic acid might displace NSAIDs from binding sites on albumin. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist with Advil Dual Action, which combines ibuprofen and acetaminophen. Ibuprofen travels through your blood mostly stuck to a protein called albumin. In test-tube studies, caprylic acid seemed to bump ibuprofen off those protein parking spots, leaving a little more free drug floating around. In theory, that could nudge ibuprofen's effects and side effects up a notch, things like stomach upset, heartburn, or, with regular use, irritation of the stomach lining or kidney strain.
I want to be straight with you: this is purely theoretical and has never actually been shown in people. The acetaminophen side isn't really involved here. Food amounts of caprylic acid (think coconut oil) almost certainly don't matter. If you take concentrated supplements, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Ibuprofen, Acetaminophen page
“Advil Dual Action pairs ibuprofen, an NSAID with built-in stomach-bleeding risk, and acetaminophen, which the liver processes, so this interaction list deserves a careful read, not a skim. Most of the entries can add to bleeding risk, while smaller clusters put extra strain on the liver or kidneys.”

About Caprylic Acid
What is Caprylic Acid?
- Candida and yeast overgrowth
- Gut health support
- Antimicrobial
- Digestive health
- Part of ketogenic diets
Caprylic acid is a medium-chain fatty acid found in coconut oil and palm kernel oil that is popularly used for yeast overgrowth and gut health. While laboratory studies show it has antimicrobial activity, strong human evidence for most supplement claims is limited. It is generally considered safe in food amounts, but talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using concentrated supplements.
