Here's the gist for verapamil. It's a calcium-channel blocker that lowers blood pressure by relaxing your blood vessels and easing the heart's workload. The concern with caprylic acid is that it may also nudge your blood pressure down. Stacked together, the two could add up and push your pressure lower than intended.

I want to be honest about how soft this evidence is. It comes from animal research and theory, not from studies in people taking verapamil, so for most folks it likely won't cause trouble. If you do try a concentrated caprylic acid supplement, just watch for signs of low pressure like dizziness, lightheadedness when standing, or feeling unusually tired, and loop in your pharmacist or doctor first. Food amounts (coconut oil) are very unlikely to matter.

What Is Verapamil Used For?

Brand names: Isoptin SR, Verelan, Isoptin, Calan SR, Verelan SR, Calan, Covera HS, Verap, Veramil

Verapamil tablets and film-coated tablets are used to treat angina — including vasospastic (Prinzmetal's) angina, unstable angina, and chronic stable angina — as well as certain abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias) and high blood pressure (essential hypertension). For arrhythmias, regular-release tablets are used alongside digoxin to control heart rate in atrial flutter or atrial fibrillation, and to help prevent episodes of paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (SVT), a type of rapid heartbeat.

Extended-release and sustained-release oral forms (tablets and capsules) are indicated specifically for high blood pressure. Verapamil hydrochloride injection is used in hospital settings for rapid conversion of SVT to normal rhythm and for temporary control of fast heart rates in atrial flutter or atrial fibrillation.
