Here's the simple version: secobarbital (Seconal) is a barbiturate that calms the brain to help you sleep. Catnip is thought to have its own mild calming, sleepy effect. Put the two together and those effects can stack up. This isn't about catnip changing how your body breaks the drug down. It's more of an additive situation, where one sedative is added on top of another.

What that could look like in real life is feeling extra drowsy, groggy, dizzy, or unsteady, with slower breathing in heavier cases. Honestly, the evidence here is thin (mostly anecdotal and animal data), so a cup of catnip tea may not do much. Still, since secobarbital is already a strong sleep medicine, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.
