Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Ephedrine Sulfate, Hydroxyzine, Theophylline
Ephedrine Sulfate, Hydroxyzine, Theophylline falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Cauliflower interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Of the three ingredients in this combo product, the one that really matters here is theophylline, which your body clears using a liver enzyme called CYP1A2. Eating a lot of cruciferous vegetables like cauliflower may speed that enzyme up a little (studies suggest somewhere around 14% to 27%). In theory, that could push theophylline out of your system a bit faster and make it work less well, meaning more wheezing or shortness of breath if your levels drop too low.
Theophylline is a tricky drug where small changes in blood level can matter, so this is worth knowing. That said, the evidence is modest, and normal food portions of cauliflower are unlikely to throw things off. Just keep your veggie intake fairly steady and check with your pharmacist or doctor before making big changes.
