Trandolapril, Verapamil falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Celery interacts with.
In vitro and animal research suggests that constituents of celery can inhibit CYP1A2. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Tarka combines two blood pressure medicines: trandolapril (an ACE inhibitor) and verapamil (a calcium channel blocker). The concern here is theoretical. Lab and animal studies hint that compounds in celery may slow down the CYP1A2 enzyme, which helps clear certain drugs from your body. If that enzyme is blocked, levels of an affected medicine could creep up a bit, leading to stronger effects like dizziness, a slower heart rate, swollen ankles, or constipation from the verapamil side.
Here's the reassuring part: this has never actually been seen in people, and verapamil is mostly handled by a different enzyme (CYP3A4), not CYP1A2. Eating celery as food is very unlikely to cause trouble. Concentrated celery seed supplements are a bigger question mark, so just run those by your pharmacist or doctor first.

Clinical research suggests that taking celery seed extract may reduce daytime systolic blood pressure by about 12 mmHg compared to less than 1 mmHg with placebo.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Tarka pairs two blood pressure medicines in one pill: trandolapril (an ACE inhibitor) and verapamil (a calcium channel blocker). Both already work to bring your numbers down. Here's the thing about celery seed extract: small studies suggest the concentrated supplement can lower daytime systolic pressure by around 12 points on its own. Stack that on top of your Tarka and the effects can add up.
That doesn't mean trouble for everyone, but it could push your pressure lower than intended. Watch for dizziness, lightheadedness when standing, fatigue, or feeling faint. Eating celery as a vegetable at dinner is very unlikely to matter. The caution is really about daily seed extract or oil capsules. If you're considering one, please check with your pharmacist or doctor first so they can keep an eye on your readings.
