Capmatinib Hydrochloride falls under PHOTOSENSITIZING DRUGS — the group Chlorella interacts with.

Theoretically, chlorella might have additive effects with photosensitizing drugs.
Chlorella has been reported to cause photosensitization. In five case reports, patients who had ingested chlorella exhibited swelling followed by erythematopurpuric lesions on sun-exposed areas of the body. Theoretically, concomitant use with photosensitizing drugs may exacerbate effects.

Here's the thing to know about pairing chlorella with capmatinib (Tabrecta): this isn't about chlorella changing how your body breaks down the medicine or how strong it is. Capmatinib can already make your skin more sensitive to sunlight, so you may burn faster or develop rashes on sun-exposed areas. Chlorella has been linked, in a handful of case reports, to a similar reaction. The concern is simply that the two together might add up and make your skin react more.

I want to be honest that this is a theoretical interaction based on pharmacology, not something proven to commonly happen. Still, while you're on capmatinib, it's smart to protect your skin with sunscreen, hats, and shade. Before starting any chlorella supplement, please run it by your oncology team or pharmacist first.

Tabrecta (capmatinib) is used to treat adults with metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) — lung cancer that has spread to other parts of the body. It is only for patients whose tumors have a specific genetic change called a MET exon 14 skipping mutation, which must be confirmed by an FDA-approved test before starting treatment.
