Theoretically, chlorella might have additive effects with photosensitizing drugs.
Chlorella has been reported to cause photosensitization. In five case reports, patients who had ingested chlorella exhibited swelling followed by erythematopurpuric lesions on sun-exposed areas of the body. Theoretically, concomitant use with photosensitizing drugs may exacerbate effects.

Here's the deal with pairing chlorella and celecoxib (Celebrex). Celecoxib is an anti-inflammatory that can, in some people, make the skin a little more sensitive to sunlight. Chlorella has its own track record here too. In a handful of case reports, people taking chlorella developed swelling and reddish-purple, bruise-like patches on areas exposed to the sun. So the worry is that using both together could add up and make a sunburn-type skin reaction a bit more likely.

I want to be honest: this is a theoretical concern based on how each one behaves, not something proven to happen often. It's nothing to panic over. Just be sensible with sun protection, use sunscreen, and check with your pharmacist or doctor if you notice any unusual rash or skin sensitivity.

Chlorella is a nutrient-rich freshwater green algae taken as a supplement for general wellness, immune support, and 'detox.' Some small studies suggest possible benefits for cholesterol, blood pressure, and immune markers, but the overall evidence is limited and not strong. It is generally well tolerated, but quality varies and it should be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding unless a doctor approves.

What Is Celecoxib Used For?

Brand names: Celebrex, Elyxyb

Celecoxib capsules (Celebrex and generic celecoxib) are used for osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis (arthritis of the spine), and juvenile rheumatoid arthritis in children 2 years and older. The capsules are also used for acute pain in adults and primary dysmenorrhea (painful periods).

Vyscoxa oral suspension is used for osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis in adults, plus juvenile rheumatoid arthritis in children 2 years and older. It is not for acute pain or primary dysmenorrhea. ELYXYB oral solution is only for treating a migraine attack, with or without aura, in adults. It is not for preventing migraines.
