Rucaparib Camsylate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Clove interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use of clove may increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.
In vitro research shows that eugenol, the principal constituent of clove, can inhibit CYP2D6 in a dose-dependent manner. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist with clove and Rubraca (rucaparib). Your body uses a liver enzyme called CYP2D6 to help process rucaparib, and lab studies suggest eugenol (the main oil in clove) can slow that enzyme down. In theory, a slower enzyme could let a bit more rucaparib build up, which might mean more of its typical side effects, things like nausea, fatigue, low blood counts, or changes in taste.

The important word here is theoretical. This was only seen in test-tube studies, never confirmed in people, and the amount of clove you'd get from cooking is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated clove oil or supplements are a different story. Since rucaparib is a cancer medicine, please check with your oncology team or pharmacist before adding any clove product.

About Rucaparib

What Is Rucaparib Used For?

Brand name: Rubraca

Rubraca (rucaparib) is used for two types of cancer in adults who carry a harmful BRCA gene mutation (either inherited or found in the tumor). First, it is used as maintenance treatment — meaning ongoing treatment to keep cancer from coming back — in people with recurrent epithelial ovarian cancer, fallopian tube cancer, or primary peritoneal cancer who responded (fully or partially) to platinum-based chemotherapy.

Second, Rubraca treats metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (advanced prostate cancer that has stopped responding to hormone-lowering treatment) in adults who have already received androgen receptor-directed therapy. Patients must be tested with an FDA-approved companion diagnostic to confirm the BRCA mutation before starting Rubraca for prostate cancer.
