Here's the simple version: coffee charcoal acts a bit like other charcoals in your gut. Its porous surface can grab onto things passing through, and that includes your eplerenone tablet. If you swallow them close together, some of your dose may bind to the charcoal and never get absorbed, which means less medicine actually reaching your bloodstream.

For a blood pressure drug, that could translate into weaker control of your numbers. The good news is this is a theoretical concern based on how charcoal behaves, not strong proof, and it's easy to manage. Spacing the two apart by at least two hours usually solves it. Before adding coffee charcoal, run it by your pharmacist or doctor so your eplerenone keeps working as intended.

What Is Eplerenone Used For?

Brand name: Inspra

Eplerenone treats two conditions. First, it is used to lower high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of stroke and heart attack. It can be used alone or alongside other blood pressure medicines.

Second, eplerenone is used to improve survival in stable adults who have heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) — meaning the heart pumps less blood than normal — following an acute myocardial infarction (heart attack).
