Here's the thing to keep in mind with coffee charcoal: like other charcoals, it has a porous surface that can grab onto medicines sitting in your gut. If you swallow your trandolapril (Mavik) too close to a dose of coffee charcoal, less of the drug may actually get absorbed into your body. That could leave your blood pressure higher than your doctor intended, or make it work less well for your heart after a heart attack.

This is a theoretical concern based on how charcoal behaves, not something proven in studies with this exact drug. The easy fix is timing: keep your trandolapril and any coffee charcoal at least two hours apart. If you take both regularly, just run it by your pharmacist so your doses line up safely.

About Trandolapril

What Is Trandolapril Used For?

Brand name: Mavik

Trandolapril tablets are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). They can be used on their own or combined with other blood pressure medicines such as hydrochlorothiazide.

Trandolapril tablets are also used in stable patients who have reduced heart pumping function (left-ventricular systolic dysfunction) or heart failure that developed within the first few days after a heart attack. In Caucasian patients, trandolapril has been shown to lower the risk of cardiovascular death and reduce hospitalizations related to heart failure.
