ORAL DRUGS
Why this applies to Zanubrutinib
Zanubrutinib falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group Coffee Charcoal interacts with.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the simple version: coffee charcoal acts like a sponge in your gut. Its porous, charcoal-like surface can grab onto medicines before your body has a chance to absorb them. If you swallow your Zanubrutinib (Brukinsa) too close to a dose of coffee charcoal, less of the drug may actually get into your bloodstream.
That matters because Zanubrutinib is a cancer treatment, and you want full absorption so it can do its job. Getting less of it could mean a weaker effect over time. The good news is this concern is based on how charcoal behaves in general, not on hard studies with this specific drug. The easy fix is spacing: keep them at least two hours apart. Please run your timing past your oncologist or pharmacist first.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Zanubrutinib page
“Grapefruit is the biggest supplement risk with zanubrutinib (Brukinsa), a targeted therapy for certain blood cancers, and this list deserves genuine care. Grapefruit blocks the enzyme (CYP3A4) that clears the drug, so levels can climb and side effects with them.”

About Coffee Charcoal
What is Coffee Charcoal?
- Diarrhea
- Inflammatory bowel conditions
- Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
- Mild digestive upset
- Wound and skin care (topical, traditional)
Coffee charcoal is made by roasting green coffee beans until they turn black, creating a charcoal-like material used traditionally for diarrhea and digestive complaints. Scientific evidence supporting its benefits is very limited, and it should not replace proven treatments. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you have a chronic gut condition.
About Zanubrutinib
What Is Zanubrutinib Used For?
Brand name: Brukinsa
Brukinsa (zanubrutinib) is used to treat adult patients with certain blood cancers. It treats mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) in patients who have had at least one prior therapy, Waldenström's macroglobulinemia (WM), relapsed or refractory marginal zone lymphoma (MZL) after at least one prior anti-CD20 treatment, and chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) or small lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL).
Brukinsa is also used — in combination with another medicine called obinutuzumab — to treat relapsed or refractory follicular lymphoma (FL) in adults who have already received two or more lines of treatment. Several of these uses were granted accelerated FDA approval based on response rates, meaning confirmatory trials are still ongoing.
