Cisplatin falls under IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS — the group Cordyceps interacts with.

Theoretically, concurrent use of cordyceps might interfere with immunosuppressive therapy.
Animal and in vitro research suggests that cordyceps stimulates the immune system. However, limited clinical research suggests that taking cordyceps may lower the necessary therapeutic dose of the immunosuppressant cyclosporine, which suggests that cordyceps may have an immunosuppressive effect.

Here's the honest picture with cordyceps and cisplatin. The interaction on file comes from research on the immune system, and it's mostly theoretical or based on lab, animal, and lower-quality human studies. Cisplatin is a platinum chemotherapy drug, not a true immunosuppressant in the everyday sense, so the concern from the database doesn't map perfectly onto it.

That said, cordyceps may nudge the immune system, and it's promoted for "immune support," which is a tricky idea during cancer treatment. We really don't have solid evidence on how it affects cisplatin's power or its side effects like nausea, kidney strain, hearing changes, or low blood counts. Because chemo is so carefully dosed, please don't add cordyceps without first checking with your oncology team or pharmacist.

Cordyceps is a fungus used in traditional Chinese medicine for energy, exercise performance, and lung and immune support. Human research is limited and mostly low quality, so its benefits are not well proven. It appears generally well tolerated in the short term, but quality varies and it should be avoided in pregnancy and breastfeeding due to lack of safety data.

About Cisplatin Injection

What Is Cisplatin Injection Used For?

Brand name: Platinol-AQ

Cisplatin Injection is used to treat three types of cancer. For metastatic testicular tumors and metastatic ovarian tumors, it is used as part of combination chemotherapy — alongside other approved cancer medicines — in patients who have already had surgery and/or radiation therapy. For metastatic ovarian tumors, it can also be used alone as a second-line treatment when standard chemotherapy has stopped working and cisplatin has not been tried before.

For advanced bladder cancer (specifically transitional cell bladder cancer) that can no longer be treated with surgery or radiation, Cisplatin Injection is used as a single agent.
