These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Coriander interacts with whole categories of medication. Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride, Naproxen Sodium falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Coriander in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
CNS DEPRESSANTS
1 of 2Why this applies to Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride, Naproxen Sodium
Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride, Naproxen Sodium falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Coriander interacts with.
Evidence from animal research suggests that coriander fruit extract has sedative effects.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Aleve PM pairs naproxen (a pain reliever) with diphenhydramine, the same antihistamine found in nighttime sleep aids. The diphenhydramine half is what makes you drowsy, and that's the piece that matters here. The concern on file is simple: coriander may have a mild calming, sedative effect of its own, so in theory it could add to that sleepiness when taken together.
I want to be honest about how thin this evidence is. It comes only from animal studies, not people, so it's more of a theoretical caution than a proven problem. Cilantro sprinkled on your food is very unlikely to do anything. Concentrated coriander extracts or essential oils are the bigger question mark. If you notice extra grogginess, next-morning hangover feeling, or dizziness, check in with your pharmacist or doctor.

PHOTOSENSITIZING DRUGS
2 of 2Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride, Naproxen Sodium also falls under PHOTOSENSITIZING DRUGS.
Evidence from in vitro research suggests that coriandrin, a constituent of coriander, has photosensitizing effects.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version: this isn't about how your body breaks down Aleve PM. Instead, both coriander and the naproxen in this product can make your skin a little more sensitive to sunlight. So the worry is just that combining them might raise your chance of a sunburn-type reaction, like redness, irritation, or a rash, on skin that gets sun exposure.
Honestly, I wouldn't lose sleep over this one. The evidence is very weak (mostly lab data on a coriander compound called coriandrin), and the everyday cilantro you cook with is unlikely to cause trouble. If you use concentrated coriander extracts or notice your skin burning easily, wear sunscreen and check with your pharmacist or doctor.
