Maalox (the aluminum and magnesium hydroxide combo) works by neutralizing the acid already sitting in your stomach, which is what eases that burning, sour heartburn feeling. The idea here is pretty simple: cubebs have been reported, in a loose, anecdotal way, to bump up stomach acid. If that happens, your antacid might have a little more acid to fight, so it could feel like it isn't quenching the heartburn quite as well.

Honestly, I wouldn't lose sleep over this one. It's rated minor and rests on weak, theoretical evidence, and a sprinkle of cubebs as a kitchen spice is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated cubeb extracts or oils are a different story. If you use those regularly and notice your antacid isn't cutting it, check in with your pharmacist or doctor.
