Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Dextromethorphan
Dextromethorphan falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Cubebs interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist with cubebs and your cough medicine. Some compounds in cubeb berries have slowed down a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 in test-tube studies. Dextromethorphan is partly cleared by that enzyme, so in theory, blocking it could let the drug build up a bit more than usual. That might mean stronger or longer-lasting effects, like extra drowsiness, dizziness, or a foggy, woozy feeling.
The important thing: this is only lab data, with nothing seen in real people, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Sprinkling cubebs as a spice is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated cubeb extracts or oils are a different story, so check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining those with dextromethorphan.

“A glass of grapefruit juice can push dextromethorphan (Benylin, Hold, and other cough medicines) to higher levels than intended, one of four major-rated entries among the 171 supplements and herbs on file, and the list as a whole warrants real care. Most interactions trace back to the liver enzymes (CYP3A4 and CYP2D6) that clear dextro…”

About Cubebs
What is Cubebs?
- Coughs and bronchitis
- Indigestion and gas
- Urinary tract complaints
- Sore throat
- Culinary spice
Cubebs are spicy, peppery berries from a vine in the pepper family that have long been used in traditional medicine for coughs, digestion, and urinary problems. Modern human studies are very limited, so its benefits are not well proven. Use it cautiously as a food spice, and talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using concentrated extracts or oils.
