Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Buprenorphine Hydrochloride, Naloxone Hydrochloride
Buprenorphine Hydrochloride, Naloxone Hydrochloride falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Cubebs interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for Bunavail (buprenorphine with naloxone): the buprenorphine part is partly broken down by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In test-tube studies, certain compounds in cubebs can slow that enzyme down. If that happened in your body too, buprenorphine could build up a bit more than usual, which might mean stronger effects like extra drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, constipation, or slowed breathing.
The important part is that this is only seen in lab research, not in actual people, so it's theoretical right now. A pinch of cubebs as a kitchen spice is very unlikely to cause trouble. Concentrated cubeb extracts or oils are the bigger question mark. Before adding those, please run it by your pharmacist or prescriber.
