Osimertinib Mesylate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Cubebs interacts with.

Several compounds isolated from cubebs can inhibit cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) in vitro. So far, this effect has not been reported in humans. Theoretically, cubebs might increase the effects and side effects of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4. These include lovastatin (Mevacor), clarithromycin (Biaxin), cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune), diltiazem (Cardizem), estrogens, indinavir (Crixivan), triazolam (Halcion), and numerous others.

Here's the simple version: your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear osimertinib (Tagrisso). In test-tube studies, some compounds in cubeb berries appear to slow that enzyme down. If that were to happen in people, less of the drug would get broken down, so more could build up in your system. That could mean a greater chance of osimertinib's usual side effects, like diarrhea, mouth sores, rash or nail changes, and tiredness.

The important part: this is only laboratory evidence and has not been seen in actual patients, so the real-world risk is unclear. Cubeb used lightly as a kitchen spice is unlikely to be a problem. Concentrated extracts or oils are the bigger question. Since osimertinib is a serious cancer medicine, please check with your oncologist or pharmacist before using cubeb supplements.

About Osimertinib

What Is Osimertinib Used For?

Brand name: Tagrisso

Tagrisso is used to treat adults with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) whose tumors have specific EGFR mutations — either an exon 19 deletion or an exon 21 L858R mutation — confirmed by an FDA-approved test. It is used in several settings: after surgery to reduce the risk of cancer returning (adjuvant therapy), for locally advanced stage III NSCLC that has not progressed after chemoradiation, and as a first-line treatment for locally advanced or metastatic NSCLC (including in combination with pemetrexed and platinum-based chemotherapy).

Tagrisso is also approved for adults with metastatic NSCLC that carries a specific resistance mutation called T790M, when the cancer has stopped responding to another EGFR-targeted therapy.
