Why this applies to Vincristine Sulfate

Vincristine Sulfate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Cubebs interacts with.

Several compounds isolated from cubebs can inhibit cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) in vitro. So far, this effect has not been reported in humans. Theoretically, cubebs might increase the effects and side effects of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4. These include lovastatin (Mevacor), clarithromycin (Biaxin), cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune), diltiazem (Cardizem), estrogens, indinavir (Crixivan), triazolam (Halcion), and numerous others.

Here's the basic idea with cubebs and vincristine. Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear vincristine from your body. Some compounds in cubeb berries have slowed that same enzyme in lab dishes. If that happened in a person, vincristine could hang around longer and hit harder than intended.

That matters because vincristine already has tough side effects, especially nerve-related ones like tingling, numbness, weakness, or constipation, along with low blood counts. More drug in your system could mean more of those problems. I'll be honest though: this is only test-tube data, not something seen in actual patients, and a sprinkle of cubeb as a spice is unlikely to do much. Concentrated extracts or oils are the bigger question. Since you're on chemo, please run any cubeb supplement past your oncology team first.
