Riluzole falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Eleuthero interacts with.

Theoretically, eleuthero might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2.
In vitro and animal research suggest that standardized extracts of eleuthero inhibit CYP1A2. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for riluzole: your liver clears it mainly through an enzyme called CYP1A2. Lab and animal studies hint that eleuthero may slow that enzyme down a bit. If that happened in people, riluzole could build up in your system, which might mean stronger side effects like dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, stomach upset, or feeling more tired than usual.

I want to be honest about how shaky this is, though. This effect has only shown up in test tubes and animals, never confirmed in humans, so it's more of a theoretical caution than a proven problem. Riluzole is important for managing ALS, so don't change anything on your own. Just give your pharmacist or doctor a heads-up before adding eleuthero.

What Is Riluzole Used For?

Riluzole is approved to treat amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) — the progressive neurological disease also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. This indication is shared across all available riluzole products, including tablets (Rilutek, riluzole), the dissolving oral film (Exservan), and the oral suspension (Tiglutik).

Tiglutik oral suspension is notable in that it can also be given through a PEG-tube (percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy tube) for patients who have difficulty swallowing.
