Here's the simple version: nateglinide (Starlix) works by nudging your pancreas to release more insulin right around mealtime, which lowers your blood sugar. Some clinical research suggests ellagic acid may also lower blood sugar on its own in people with type 2 diabetes. So when you stack the two together, their sugar-lowering effects can add up.

That means the main thing to watch for is low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), which can show up as shakiness, sweating, dizziness, a racing heart, hunger, or confusion. This concern is mostly theoretical and based on limited human data, so it isn't a guaranteed problem. Eating ellagic-acid-rich foods like berries and pomegranates is generally fine. Before starting a concentrated supplement, check in with your pharmacist or doctor.

Nateglinide tablets are used to help improve blood sugar (glucose) control in adults with type 2 diabetes. It is always used together with diet and exercise — not as a replacement for them.

Nateglinide is not for type 1 diabetes, and it is not used to treat diabetic ketoacidosis (a serious complication where the blood becomes dangerously acidic).
