Ellagic Acid + Glipizide
Glipizide brand names: Glucotrol, Glucotrol XL.
Ellagic Acid has a moderate interaction with Glipizide. Some clinical research shows that ellagic acid reduces fasting and postprandial glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes who are on stable doses of hypoglycemic agents such as metformin.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ANTIDIABETES DRUGS
Why this applies to Glipizide
Glipizide falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Ellagic Acid interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing to keep in mind if you take glipizide (Glucotrol) and you're thinking about ellagic acid supplements. Glipizide already lowers your blood sugar by pushing your pancreas to release more insulin. Some clinical research suggests ellagic acid can lower fasting and after-meal glucose on its own. Stack the two together and you could push your blood sugar a little too low.
That means watching for the usual low blood sugar signs: shakiness, sweating, dizziness, a racing heart, confusion, or feeling suddenly hungry. The evidence here is moderate, not alarming, and a serving of pomegranate or berries on your plate isn't the concern. Concentrated supplement doses are. Before adding ellagic acid, check with your pharmacist or doctor so they can guide any monitoring.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Glipizide page
“Glipizide (Glucotrol, Glucotrol XL) lowers blood sugar by prompting the pancreas to release more insulin, and that same power is why I read its supplement list with real seriousness. Of the 307 ingredients on file, 239 also act on blood glucose, so stacking them can drive sugar dangerously low.”

About Ellagic Acid
What is Ellagic Acid?
- Antioxidant support
- General anti-aging or 'cleanse' products
- Cancer prevention interest
- Skin and beauty products
- Heart and metabolic health
Ellagic acid is a natural plant compound (a polyphenol) found in foods like pomegranates, raspberries, strawberries, and walnuts. It is studied mostly in laboratory and animal research for antioxidant and possible anti-cancer effects, but strong human evidence is lacking. Eating ellagic-acid-rich foods is healthy, but supplements are not proven to treat any disease, so check with a pharmacist or doctor before using them.
About Glipizide
What Is Glipizide Used For?

Glipizide Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Glipizide as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Ellagic Acid — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
