Here's the thing to keep an eye on with this combo. Your medicine (Marax or Ami Rax) contains ephedrine, which is a stimulant that narrows blood vessels and revs up the heart. Ergot also clamps down on blood vessels, and quite powerfully. When you stack the two, those vessel-tightening effects can add up. That could mean higher blood pressure, headache, a racing or pounding heartbeat, cold or tingling fingers and toes, or feeling jittery and anxious.

Honestly, this concern rests on anecdotal reports, so it isn't ironclad. But ergot is toxic and unpredictable on its own, so I'd never suggest using it. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before mixing anything ergot-related with your stimulant medicine.

What is Ergot?

Ergot is a toxic fungus that grows on rye and contains powerful chemicals (ergot alkaloids) that strongly narrow blood vessels and squeeze the uterus. Because raw ergot is poisonous and the dose is impossible to control safely, it should never be used as a home remedy or supplement. Some purified ergot chemicals are used as prescription drugs under strict medical supervision, but the crude herb is not safe to take.
