First things first: please don't take European mandrake at all. It's genuinely toxic and there's no safe, proven use for it. But here's the idea behind this particular interaction. Mandrake's tropane alkaloids (atropine-like compounds) slow down how fast your gut moves. When your stomach and intestines empty more slowly, a medicine like NyQuil can sit there longer and get absorbed more completely. In theory, that could nudge up the effects of all three ingredients: more drowsiness and dry mouth from the doxylamine, more sedation or dizziness from the dextromethorphan, and a bit more acetaminophen reaching your bloodstream.

None of these are prodrugs, so this is about slightly stronger, longer effects, not weaker ones. Keep in mind this is a theoretical concern based on how the body works, not solid human studies. Even so, the real danger here is mandrake itself. If you've taken any, call your doctor or poison control right away.
