First, the big picture: European mandrake is genuinely toxic, and I would not recommend taking it at all. Setting that aside, here is the specific concern with dextroamphetamine. Mandrake's tropane alkaloids slow down how fast your gut moves things along. When your stomach and intestines empty more slowly, a pill like dextroamphetamine can sit longer and be absorbed more completely, so theoretically more of it gets into your system.

With a stimulant, that could mean stronger or longer effects: a racing or pounding heart, higher blood pressure, jitteriness, trouble sleeping, and dry mouth (which mandrake also causes on its own). To be clear, this is a theoretical interaction based on how these chemicals behave, not something proven in studies. Still, please don't use mandrake, and check with your pharmacist or doctor.

What Is Dextroamphetamine Used For?

Brand name: Dexedrine

Dextroamphetamine treats two conditions: ADHD and narcolepsy (a sleep disorder causing uncontrollable daytime sleepiness). It is available in multiple forms — tablets, extended-release capsules, oral solution, and a skin patch — and the approved age ranges vary by product.

Oral tablets (Zenzedi, generic) and oral solutions (Procentra, generic) are approved for ADHD in children as young as 3 years old and for narcolepsy. Extended-release capsules (Dexedrine, generic) are approved for ADHD in children ages 6 to 16 and for narcolepsy. Xelstrym, the transdermal patch, is approved only for ADHD — in adults and children ages 6 and older — and is not indicated for narcolepsy.
